MS Balena Wreck – A Hidden Diving Gem in Hurghada
MS Balena is one of the most mysterious and, due to its location, least frequented dive sites in Hurghada. This sunken vessel, measuring 41 meters in length and 7 meters in width, offers an ideal underwater experience for those looking to explore a vibrant artificial reef without venturing too deep.
Sunk intentionally in 2001 to create an artificial reef, the MS Balena has since transformed into a thriving marine ecosystem. Resting at a maximum depth of just 10 meters, this wreck is easily accessible for both beginner and experienced divers, making it a perfect choice for a relaxed and visually rich dive.
Despite its relatively small size, the wreck is bursting with marine life thanks to its shallow depth and prime location. Soft corals have colonized the metal hull, creating a colorful backdrop for a variety of underwater species. While diving here, you can expect to encounter blue-spotted stingrays, scorpionfish, longfin batfish, angelfish, and yellow boxfish – all coexisting in this serene underwater habitat.
